This was a nice tea ceremony. I felt like it was so short ~45 minutes with the teacher. She herself was a student! It was nice to hear her mention her school and mentor. I booked this online about 30 days prior (when the reservations open up). It was ¥3300 per person for the tea ceremony and ¥5000 per person for kimono rental. The kimono rental is at another location, so we went there first. It was only two minutes walking from our hotel, Park Hyatt Kyoto, which is why I selected this company. We arrived at the tea house early, so we waited in the waiting room. We had to remove shoes before entering the building. Their AC was broken, but it was much cooler inside than outside. When they were ready, they took our group up the stairs. We sat on the floor on mats the whole time. If you sit to the left of the teacher, you get to be special. Everyone gets to make and drink a small amount of the matcha tea. This was fun to try once. I wouldn't do it again. I actually really liked the jelly dessert that was served. I need to find out where to buy those!

⚠️ Please be warned that the business has at least two locations in the different parts of Kyoto! Make sure you understand which location you are booking for! Like many people who never encountered an online booking that could go for multiple locations I arrived in the wrong location first which resulted in a lot of negative emotions and lost time for me. However the owners accommodated a rescheduling at least so I was able to come another time. Now, after all the place is legit and the (group tea ceremony) experience was good! (Tip: arrive earlier 😉) At first I was concerned that such a business’ey environment will result in a more superficial experience that I would like to but in the end it was good. Please be advised that only one person from the group gets the tea prepared ceremonially by a host and others drink what they quickly concoct themselves. 😊 There were nice explanations, etc. (One thing I would change is remove a person who was talking in the background during the ceremony quite a lot. ☺️)

Really good experience! I'm not usually one for things that are too touristy, but the ceremony was done in a really nice way that was cozy, intimate and informative. "The tea master” was sweet and entertaining. Highly recommend it if you want to try a tea ceremony while in Kyoto. I had booked tickets in advance, which was a good idea because when we arrived there was a sign saying they were fully booked for the day.

Amazing experience, definitely exceeded our expectations. The hosts were super nice, explaining every step of the ceremony and teaching us about the Japanese culture. More than worth it.

Wonderful experience. We did the kimono and private tea ceremony and both were fantastic. The hosts were very knowledgeable and kind and we learned a lot. The matcha was of course excellent.

I enjoyed my experience here. It is a little pricey for such a short experience but the hosts were great at explaining the ceremony and significance of the actions. You get up to 7 people in your shared ceremony. Sit closest to the tea utensils to be in the place of honor and get served tea during the ceremony. Google did a good job of navigating me here and it is off a street with a lot of cool shops.

I can only remember with admiration, amazement and affection the experience I had at the Camelia tea house. We were welcomed very kindly and the lady who explained and made us try the ritual spoke English very well: we understood well all the details of this ancient ceremony which, in the original royal version, lasts up to four hours! Ours lasted about forty minutes, but we really appreciated the moment of peace, silence and concentration. With her instructions, we made the tea by ourselves with real matcha and typical tools, it was a great satisfaction. In the end, in the shop, we bought a quality matcha (in shops most of the time it is sencha or low quality matcha). It costs a little more, but you will have the typical product that will make you remember this unique experience! Highly recommended.
